The Institute offers the following three courses in Fire Technology. Examinations
are conducted in April and October every year and study material is obtainable from
the Institute's Head Office.
The following extract has been received from a letter sent to Mr. N van der Schyff of the Pretoria Technikon whereby they have applied for registration of their programs on the NQF levels. The equivalancy of our qualifications with that of other tertiary institutions are:
Higher Certificate in Fire Technology This is the new name for the old "Senior Fireman Certificate" that was used until 1994. This is the first level on the Degree Assembly and will also be the first year of study towards a three year qualification. This qualification was evaluated by the then Human Science Research Council to be on the level of a Matric plus one year of study. With the new levels of the National Qualifications Framework it will be evaluated as a NQF 4 qualifications, being the same as a Matric plus one year of study. Click on the bulletin above for more information on this certificate. Diploma in Fire Technology This is the new name for the old "Graduate Diploma" that was used until 1994. This is the second level on the Degree Assembly and will also be the second year of study towards a three year qualification. This qualification was evaluated by the then Human Science Research Council to be on the level of a Matric plus two years of study. With the new levels of the National Qualifications Framework it will be evaluated as a NQF 5 qualifications, being the same as a Matric plus two years of study. This is the third level on the Degree Assembly and will also be the third and final year of study towards a three year qualification. This qualification was evaluated by the then Human Science Research Council to be on the level of a Matric plus three years of study. With the new levels of the National Qualifications Framework it will be evaluated as a NQF 6 qualifications, being the same as a Matric plus three years of study.
